One half gallon milk will make one half gallon of yogurt. 1/2 gallon of organic milk Whole Foods brand costs $3.69. I just bought some today.
A quart of good yogurt costs from about $3.50 (Seven Stars brand) to about $6.00 (Maple Hill Creamery, Ronnybrook).
By using whole milk + 3-4 tablespoons yogurt as starter, the cost of a quart is 1/2 of buying it already made. And if you use expensive yogurt as a starter, the savings are even greater!
